Over the Easter holiday, I am travelling to Vietnam to volunteer in local a school in Hanoi to teach English.

Despite Vietnam having one of the fastest growing economies in Asia, over 40% of people still survive on under £2 a day. Many people are trapped in low paid and hard working agricultural jobs, with few opportunities to improve their situation and quality of life. However, with the agricultural sector's growth plummeting, a need for skilled, multilingual workers is higher in demand than ever. English is a vital skill to have in the international trade industry that Vietnam depends greatly on.

For children and young people, learning English can be the gateway to dramatically improving their quality of life, assisting their families, and can help generations to come. Being able to communicate in such an internal language is an invaluable skill, and offers so many more job prospects in the changing and confused job climate of Vietnam.

My role will be to teach English in the classroom environment, to make learning the language fun and improve their confidence. The school cannot afford enough English speaking staff, meaning my presence will be beneficial as someone with English as a first language. I aim to use skills learnt from my job, working as a learning support assistant in a school for children with special needs, to help make my lessons and general contribution as valuable as possible. As well as this, I will be helping staff by teaching them English, adding to the long term benefit of the school and it's deserving pupils. In spare time, I plan on teaching in a community class which will serve for high school students and university attendees. The students come from rural areas and desire to learn English to improve their future.

As a young person from England, I have begun to realise just how much I take for granted and the infinite chances I get to improve my future and make a happy life for myself. I have also begun to realise not all are as lucky, and many young people around the world do not have to chance to think ambitiously to create fulfilling lives, but can only hope to secure that little £2 a day to live on. I really aim to help by sharing the vital skill of English, and if this can help some young people like myself make a better life for themselves, then I will be over the moon!!

I have been saving for the trip as of summer, however the costs have been mounting up! I am incredibly excited about the chance to help where I feel it is very necessary, and if you could give a donation to help me get there (whatever you can) then I would be incredibly thankful and humbled.

If you have powered on and read all of this, then thank you! Equally, if you have felt like donating any money, thank you very very much!!!
