Algerian Sloughis in need of urgent help!!!
Four sloughias from rare Maghreb lines need to be relocated to safety due to Covid-19 related unemployment. They are malnourished and threatened to be euthanised if not relocated as soon as possible. We have sent some money to buy food for the sloughias until we find more permanent solution. They will be saved by Tarek Tahari who has started building a sloughi preservation and rehabilitation center in Algiers, Algeria. However until the borders are closed the building cannot be resumed and the sloughias will be housed in temporary rented facility.
The center will be first of its kind and will be directed towards preservation of the pure original type sloughi as well as rehabilitating any sloughis in need. The aim of the center is also to educate both local and international people about the breed, its historic values and welfare. Sloughi is one of oldest dog breeds ever known and yet one of the rarest too. This living piece of history is considered even older than the pyramids themselves. Due to the cross breeding and dramatic change in life style of the bedouin tribes in North Africa the traditional type sloughi is in danger of facing the extinction.
