My name is Cindy, I am a Hiphop Dancehall Krump dancer, choreographer and theatre maker.

I have been offered a place at the International School of Theatre of Jacques Lecoq (a pioneer in physical theatre, physical comedy, and more).

I will be temporarily relocating to Paris for this incredible opportunity.

I am asking for your HELP TO COVER THE COSTS OF MY TUITION FEE.

Please check out the REWARDS when making a contribution.

1. Investing in me is investing in future generations to come

Throughout my career as an artist, I have set up numerous projects to support young talents to reach their dreams.

One of my flagship programs is 1000 Pieces Puzzle. Participants have set up their own non profit organizations, went on tour with their own shows, and changed their local communities.

After my training at Jacques Lecoq, I want to continue setting up these programs. In order to be a great role model and a great mentor, I must continue raising my own game as an artist.

Testimonials:

“Cindy’s given me permission to empower myself in ways I didn’t know how, everything she’s taught me I will take on with me through out the rest of my life.” – Ffion

“Cindy is a sun and a bright light shining. I never knew I could do this as a performer.”– Paola

“1000 Pieces Puzzle… Hands down the best dance experience I have ever had. I say ‘dance experience’, but it was so much more than that. I learned so much that has already, & will continue to, aid me in my career. However I also learned a hell of a lot about myself.” - Elsa

2. Invest in female leadership

There is still huge gender inequality within the dance and theatre sectors when it comes to leadership positions.

By investing in my skill set, you are also investing in a female leader who aspires to change the gender game in the industry.

Press Reviews:

“A masterclass in contemporary dance, Voices in the Alleyway shows the struggles of a young pair of basketball-lovers, as they attempt to free themselves from the shackles of oppressive upbringings.” – The London Word

“Cindy Claes shifts boundaries in Dance Theatre.” - Isaac Ouro Gnaro

3. An incredible opportunity giving more visibility to...

There is a strict selection to enter the Jacques Lecoq School.

I am from a Hiphop Theatre, Dancehall, Krumping dance background.

Through my shows, projects and events, I always aim to give more visibility and recognition of our rich dance cultures in the theatre sector.

4. Professional development for experienced artists

There isn’t much professional development available for more mature artists. Opportunities and resources are scarce for more experienced artists.

PS: I am 37 years old. Most professional development opportunities as well as financial support, are aimed at artists who are 25 and under, or 35 and under.

The Jacques Lecoq School attracts international students from the circus industry, acrobats, dancers, theatre makers, playwrights, actors, etc. All students have already made waves in some way, shape or form in the arts sector. And all students have experience as performers or makers.

I will be training in a highly demanding environment, requiring physical stamina and a huge amount of mental stamina too.

It will also be an opportunity to develop an international network.

Jacques Lecoq (1921-1999) was a true Genius and pioneer. His techniques touches on storytelling, character work, clowning, acrobatics, mask work and more. Only a selected group of people train at the school each year.

PS: Why still invest in me even though it seems that I already achieved certain things?

Because what I have done so far as an artist, and female leader, is only chapter 1 of a much much bigger vision I have in mind. I want to achieve my true full potential as an artist, both to create mind blowing work, and support younger artists.

The International School of Theatre of Jacques Lecoq is a private school.

£6794 - one year tuition fee

£331 - various admin costs

During the first phase of the crowdfunding campaign, I was able to make the first payment to start the school year (Oct 2018). Your donations will now help me pay for the second instalment coming up in Jan 2019.

============================================================================

PS: I will be able to sustain myself in Paris while studying. The schedule allows me to continue taking some artistic jobs, have a part-time job and pay for all my living expenses.

Jacques Lecoq was a pioneer when it comes to physical theatre, comedy, clowning, movement and storytelling, moving structures in dance and theatre, mask work, etc.

Here are a few videos to illustrate how exciting it would be to bring this knowledge to the Hiphop, Dancehall, and Krump world:

1. Share this campaign

Share this campaign on social media and tell people who love the arts why they should consider supporting.

And why not add a shoutout video, I like crazy creative shoutout videos :)

2. Book me for a job / Share my dance services

I am currently in Paris, on "student survival" mode.

While I am actively searching for a part-time job, it is my performances, workshops and online courses that will help me survive in the city while studying.

Booking me for a job (workshops, shows) or sharing my artistic services means a lot!

Let me tell you a quick story...

I have been on a mission trying to make money before my big move to Paris.

(Moving country implies a lot of hidden costs, I am currently preparing for this transition).

I am ready to H-U-S-T-L-E!

Last week I didn’t see a bed for 4 days. I slept on night busses every night, going from one job (and country) to another.

Tuesday:

I was working in Brussels, coaching Hiphop Theatre Artists

Night bus from Brussels - London

Wednesday:

I was working in London, all day rehearsals

Night bus from London - Brussels

Thursday:

I was back working in Brussels, coaching Hiphop Theatre Artists

Night bus from Brussels - London

Friday: working in London, dance video shoot

Saturday: meetings in London

Sunday: working in London, dance video shoot

Night bus from London - Brussels

And more of that is coming.

I am determined to make this happen.

This is a once-in-a-life-time opportunity.

THANK YOU for your support!

In exchange of your financial support, I would like to offer you rewards, from inspirational ebooks to online shows, to workshops and performances. Please choose your contribution and reward.

All your generous contributions will have a long term impact, creating magnificent new productions, events, projects and benefiting others.
