Campaign Story
Back in the days before urban life reached Lantau Island, buffalos and cows were the essential part of the villagers' livelihood since they were part of the workforce on the farm. As agriculture diminished over the decades, local people found jobs in the city and houses were built on farmlands, these hardworking animals were eventually abandoned. They have become today's feral cattle, wandered around Lantau and Sai Kung and become vulnerable to irresponsible or careless drivers who speed or simply cannot see them on the roads especially before sunrise and after sunset. To address this serious problem, Kathy Daxon, chairwoman of the Tai O Community Cattle Group volunteered to put on a light-reflective collar around the cattle's necks such that the cattle can be seen from afar especially in the dark.
A collar can save a life. Hence the 'One Collar, One Life' campaign to raise fund such that all feral cows & buffaloes can wear a collar to improve their safety and reduce their risks of being hit. Each collar costs HKD100 to make, we cordially invite you to sponsor a collar or two to support this worthy cause.
