Hi, I am Hannah Reyes Morales and I am a Filipino photojournalist.

I met the Clemente family while covering the current war on drugs in the Philippines. Their son / father / brother Jhaylord was gunned down last week in Metro Manila. He was a man who collected recyclable materials in the trash to make a living. He is survived by his two children. I am told he was an easygoing fun loving man who like hopia, basketball jerseys, and dogs. In fact when we found his body, their dog Puppy was patiently waiting beside him.

His family is struggling to pay for his burial and death costs. I am hoping that in some way this shows you a glimpse of this ongoing war, and if you could, please lend a hand. If we can raise a bit more than what they need for the burial (they are hoping to bury him by Sunday), I will give the remaining money to his mother, who is supporting the education of his eldest daughter Shaemie (seen on the first and final photo).

I will make a list of the donors and give your names to the family. Thank you so much.

Hannah

Donation Turnover 1

Update posted by Hannah Reyes Morales at 10:03 am

I gave donations from Day 1 to Jhaylord's family last night, and upon receiving it his brother said, 'I knew it, I knew God would make a way.' (Sabi ko na nga ba, sabi ko na nga ba gagawan ng paraan ni Lord.)The campaign raised twice the amount of money. . . . .

100% Funded, But Donations still Useful

Update posted by Hannah Reyes Morales at 09:26 am

Thank you so much to those who funded this. If you would still like to donate, please do - the excess money will be given to Jhaylord's mother, who has been paying for his daughter Shaemie's education. Any amount goes a long way for them.

  • Hi Hannah, I'm your mum's cousin. I am apalled and disgusted at Duterte's method of fighting the drugs problem in the Philippines. Thank you for giving the victims- not just Jhaylord, but his daughter and family a face and a voice.
