I am the son of immigrant parents. My mother was from Chile. My father was from India. I was born in Los Angeles, California. I never knew my father.

My mother tried to finish her bachelor’s. The man she fell in love with and married turned out to be abusive. We fled.

From 1994 to 1997 I was homeless, living first in an RV and then in an 85 GMC Suburban. I will never forget the simultaneous shame and joy I felt at a soup kitchen, digging through a cardboard box full of stale McDonald’s Big Macs with dozens of other people our society has forgotten.

I worked hard in school, graduating with honors. I worked 3 jobs concurrently my first semester of college to support my family. I took every opportunity I could find and managed to graduate college. I have many peers who have not been so lucky, This pains me.

We are the richest, most powerful country in the history of the planet. I will not stop fighting while there is another child out there who struggles even more than I did. This country is capable of so much more.

We need a Political Revolution in this country. Leadership that’s unafraid to be the only person in the room to stand up for what’s right. We need someone in Philly who will fight at a contested convention and will not yield. I am 100% behind Bernie Sanders.

WE WILL NOT YIELD!

When I told my story to my fellow supporters, they honored me by electing me as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention. The nomination is not all expenses paid: I need to pay for airfare, accommodations, and all other travel expenses for my time at the convention.

In the spirit of the Political Revolution, it would mean a lot to me if you could chip in a minimum of $27 to help my family and I get there and be a part of history. We are the Stars of Destiny: I would like to go not only for myself, but for all of us who've believed in the power of this movement. #NotMeUs

UPDATE: My son, Nicholas Vaidyanathan, was just elected WHIP for the WA delegation. Most of you know what an important position that is within a delegation. He is responsible for organizing the delegates, ensuring that everyone votes, among other important tasks that will help BERNIE attain his goals. Therefore, help. . . . .
