Edit 03 08 2021 This funder was from 2016, Go Get Funding should put years on the dates... It was stopped when the stable closed and I offered all the donations back. I am still in Phuket and still seeking to adopt out the ponies please see FaceBook/ PhuketHorseRescue

Please donate to my fund for raising $4,000. (120,000 Thai baht) to export two ponies, Lamburg and Pony-Boy from Phuket, Thailand to Malaysia where they have a new home waiting at a loving stable.

My home-spun " Phuket Horse Rescue" has closed, I'm out of money, and I will need to vacate the property soon while these two ponies are left without suitable and trustworthy homes to go to. They have some special needs that are manageable (Lamburg: anhydrosis, allergy to dust, Pony-Boy: special diet for insulin resistance,) but in 18 months of trying, no one has stepped up adopt them that I can trust is able to care for them adequately.

I will not simply give them to anyone in order to avoid a difficult decision, one vet recommending I abandon them at a temple which I would never consider as a compassionate solution. It's far too easy for animals in Thailand to become neglected or abused. yes, there are vague laws but often not enforced. Another worry is a seemingly caring adopter might suddenly sell them on, they might go for slaughter, not a kind, loving ending I would wish for them.

Putting them down using correct drugs and a qualified vet-euthanasia- may be the only responsible option.

However, there is hope IF I can export them to Malaysia, 500 miles south, across the Thai border to Penang, where they (and me) will have jobs giving inexpensive beginner riding lessons to children and I will be able to continue to care for and love them. This sort of job is simply unavailable to me in Thailand legally as an employee, as the foreigner work permit requirements will not allow it. (I do not have a necessary degree in horse riding, just 45 years experience.)

Please see this page for the history of Phuket Horse Rescue (Unfortunately the web site has expired.)

Located at North Bang Tao Beach, Phuket

The funds will cover export/import procedures including prior testing, vaccinations, about 3 days of transport over 500 miles of somewhat rural roads, including an overnight stop at Songkhla Animal Quarantine in Hat Yai, Thailand, for health checks and an export permit, and again at the Thai/Malaysian border for Customs procedures, etc., then onto a 30-day mandatory quarantine once in Malaysia.

It's a complicated procedure, but doable except I just do not have the funds, yet.

I would accompany them personally along the entire route and stay close by at the quarantine facility to ensure their care.

Please help me help them...

Visitors are welcome to the property to meet me and the ponies. We are located in Layan, North Bang-Tao Beach, Thalang District in Phuket Province. Mobile phone is (66) 084 842 4581 or email; [email protected]

I do not have an internet phone so am not always online, calling or text is best to reach me.

NOTATION: Using my Thai bank account was not possible with this site, so Kathryn Sweet, my sister in Arlington, VA., 22202, USA has kindly opened the bank account to receive these funds. That's why on receipts the location of this fundraiser will state USA, not Thailand and her name and not mine is used in the "send funds to..."

Thank you for reading and I hope you will contribute to ensure the ponies have happy, safe future.

Bad News; The move is off

Update posted by Christy Sweet at 06:19 am

I've got distressing news I am going to have to offer to give the donations back. The stable in Penang is closing- the land is being developed. I was waiting to hear if the owner was going to try and move the establishment but he is not, I'm just glad. . . . .

Got Waylaid for a Short Time, But Back Now

Update posted by Christy Sweet at 08:03 am

Last 2 weeks got a little side tracked with a couple of neglected horses in Phuket. Sadly, was unable to convince the owner she needs to let them go to a willing, compassionate buyer who wants to help with a fair offer and so,... not looking too good for them.. . . . .
