Emily’s Girlguiding LaSER trip to Vietnam!

I have recently been selected to represent Girlguiding UK, London and South East Region, on an international service project taking place in summer 2015 after a lengthy process. Following the first stage of selection, I was successfully invited to attend LaSERIO which was a weekend away staying at Gilwell Park. At this point I found out my amazing group and had an adrenaline fueled reveal of our destination: VIETNAM!!

OUR GOAL: For a team of 14 teenage girls to try their absolute best to improve the lives of deprived children by transforming the setting where they receive education.

The main aim of our trip will be to paint and decorate a primary school on the outskirts of Hanoi. Once this is finished we will spend a few days working with the children, spending time with them, dancing, singing and teaching them about British Culture. At the end of the trip, we will be spending 5 days to absorb the country through touring and different activities, rewarding ourselves for all the hard work.

To attend this trip, I currently need to fundraise £3000 which is a massive task. Everybody has been so generous already, even with their time to hear all about my trip and how excitied I am.  I'm in the process of discussing and arranging all sorts of fundraising events and initiatives while trying to balance the efforts with my a-level studies, having successfully raised £300 so far. My payment scheme is intense and I am required to pay 6 lots of £500 across 7 months of hard work. I will be attending around 4 training weekends with my group leading up to the trip where I will find out more and more specifics at each stage.

I hope that you will all get involved and help me raise the total sum in time. It is a challenge but I am determined to raise all the money I can to allow me to take up on such an extraordinary opportunity. I would be eternally grateful if you could also spread the word to all your friends and family as even a donation of £3 from each individual would be phenomenal.
