The Pearl Safe Haven is a NGO founded in 2018 with the core focus on building a safe haven for survivors of gender-based violence in Ghana. There are currently no operational safe houses in Ghana.

We started the construction in early 2019 after securing seed funding from the Australian High Commission’s Melbourne Cup Award and the land from the Agyepong family. We now have now completed the structural work for two floors, which we are now tiling, wiring and furnishing. The building is designed to have a third floor, which would enable us to increase our capacity to house up to 20 survivors (from the current 12).

In addition to building the safe haven, we received grant funding from the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, and have designed and are currently building a mobile application called “Safe Place” which will enable us to provide potentially life-saving information to users as well as track incidences of violence. The second phase of the app development will be to create a link to the police hotline so calls/notifications can be made directly through the app.
