Long Time, No Updates...

Update posted by Siobhán Auckland

First of all, I want to thank everybody that has donated. I've been overwhelmed by the generosity of all those that shared this page, that donated and sent me some really beautiful messages of support. I cannot put into words how grateful I am to have such incredible people around me, and to know that there are some wonderful people out there who commit amazing acts of generosity!

So I hit my £300 goal, and have exceeded it by more than £60! I went to the healthcare shop near me once this target was hit, and have put down a deposit on a brand new dinky mobility scooter. Now, I still have £165 to pay off on it, which is going to be a struggle but I'll find a way. (This page is still open for two more weeks, so donations are still welcome!!)

This scooter is now in my possession. There were a whole load of issues with it initially, which was why I haven't posted until now. I genuinely didn't think I'd be able to keep it - there were mechanical issues, the arms of it had already been damaged... I was really upset, as I had an expensive and brand new piece of kit that I couldn't use! Not only this, my manual wheelchair has gone back so I was trapped once again.

These issues have now been fixed, and I'm back with it and able to use it again. I'm still a learner driver but I'm getting the hang of it! As my confidence grows, I'm sure I'll be happier. For now it's still a little scary, as there is a lot of stigma and stereotypes around the use of mobility scooters and people's attitudes towards me when I'm on it are really gross. I'll write more about this another time, I'm sure.

Whilst I'm so grateful for the help I've been lucky to get so far, I could really do with a little more. The £165 I still have to pay off is really quite daunting - I only earn £~200/month! So, for the next couple of weeks I will be sharing this page again, as every penny from here really counts.

Again, I want to say thank you. I've got a stack of thank you cards for donors, and I'm making gifts to accompany them (for those that want them, of course. I can't for presents on anybody!) as I really do want you all to know how much this means to me.

Light and love to you all, xo
