I am writing on behalf of all the members of Photo Club Zagreb. As you may have heard in the news, Zagreb was struck by an earthquake on Sunday early morning, March 22.
Our Club, which is one of the oldest Amateur Photo Clubs in Europe (founded in 1892.), is located in an old
building in the historical city centre of Zagreb. The building has suffered severe damage, as well as our inventory. The space Fotoklub Zagreb has in the building needs bigger construction interventions, since the facilities are in such a state of damage that they are not even safe for entering.
Due to the Corona virus situation that has been going on for some time now, the Club has altered all it’s activities into the virtual world, so we are still active even though we miss our weekly meetings, lectures and exhibitions which take place every Tuesday in the Club premises. You can visit our latest exhibition on our facebook page https://www.facebook.com/fotoklubzagreb/ .
Our Club has 350 members and is the oldest in our country. Each year we organize many activities: 20 exhibitions in our gallery, 10 exhibitions in other galleries in Croatia, photography courses every month, Photoshop courses, 25 Photo presentations, Photography workshops in Croatia and abroad...
We have “Club to Club“ international cooperation with Austria, Australia, New Zealand, Brasil, Slovenia, Italy, China, Canada, Finland, Sweden, South Korea... In the past we organized joint photo exhibitions and meetings with our friendly clubs in these countries.
Among other activities, Fotoklub Zagreb has been for many years the organiser of a Bienalle International Photo exhibition ”Zagreb Salon“ with the patronage of FIAP (Federation Internationale de l' Art Photographique) and PSA (Photographic Society of America), and this exhibition is scheduled to take place in October/November 2020.
Photoclub Zagreb also owns an Archive of 10.000 old photographs located on the premises, which are a part of the Protected Cultural Heritage of Croatia, as well as our old laboratory for developing analogue photographs.
Enclosed you can see some photos that were taken after the earthquake, even though it was not safe to enter, I made an effort to record this disaster.
We would appreciate any kind of support from you, and be grateful for any donation in order to refurbish the Club and ensure a safe place for our members and all amateur photography enthusiasts.
