Forest Therapy Guide Training

So, here goes. My 1st fundraising to raise $7,000 to fund my training fee and travel to attend a training course to become a certified forest therapy guide.

I am a co-founder of a social enterprise founded to achieve a social vision of 'Better Outdoors, Better People'. We advocate for outdoor ethics and have spun off to advocate for other environmental issues since we were founded. In my course of work, we uses the outdoors as a medium to inculcate the care for our planet. The use of outdoors can also achieve health benefits, both mentally and physiologically. This is where the vision for 'Better Outdoors, Better People' can materialize.

Forest therapy or forest bathing or shinrin yoku is a Japanese practice of using the forest as a resource to heal. This is a research supported practice that has proven to bring health benefits to counter many issues of modern urbanites like you and me.

Why fund me?

My social enterprise started in 2015 when we recognized a problem of the increase usage of the outdoor spaces and a lot of impacts being associated with it. Just right during that period, it was announced that our nature reserve (BTNR) has to be shut for restoration. That year, I quitted my job to dive into this business to do good for the outdoors and people. Being unsavvy in business, I bootstrapped for 3years and thus requiring your support to attend this course. On a good note, our work have exposed more people each year on outdoor ethics with about 18,037 people reached in 2018 alone!

The better reason to why fund me is also the truer intent to the motivation to attend the course which is to be certified as a full fledged forest therapy guide to be able to organize and lead guided experiences using forest therapy. This is to enhance the work I do to help more people benefit from being in the outdoor. In this case, to allow more people to have access to forest therapy as an alternative healing options. I will want to work with community organisation in offering forest therapy programmes should I be able to complete the training.

This is a 6 months process where I have to spend a week long intensive workshop in Australia (closest location to SG I can find). After that, to do my practicum and assignments before a final exam.

I did not limit the fund but it will end on 28 Feb. I need to secure half the funding by mid JAN 2019. Excessive funds will be used to organize forest therapy walks for the under-served community.
