Campaign Story
Where: Rockland Lake State Park in Valley Cottage, NY
What: Retreat for 200 kids of the Forest community for swimming, hiking, basketball, and BBQ picnic
When: Sunday, July 6th
Raising money for: Bus transportation from the Bronx to Upstate NY
On July 6th, 2014, Forest Project Alumni (FPA) and community residents have planned to take 200 kids, ages 6 to 13, to Rockland Lake State Park to offer the children a day of summer fun and outdoor activity, from swimmimg, hiking, basketball, and BBQ picnic.
In response to a 4 year old little boy that was killed senselessly by gun violence in 2012, the FPA and community residents have planned this 'stop the violence' family retreat as an alternative to violence in our community and a means to promote peace.
We have had several speak outs and forums to improve the attitudes of our young people in our community and how they may learn to live within a spirit of cooperation and respect for each others as well as their neighbors. We will provide bus transportation, food and activities for all those in attendance. This event will be held annually and will be a neighborhood-wide effort.
Your personal contribution will help to pay for bus transportation from the Bronx to Rockland Lake State Park.
Any support is appreciated, and no minimum or maximum amount is required. Your donation is not tax deductible.
