I wish I could explain the current status of science and its funding in Slovakia and how it's not managed properly, but I can't. My beloved wife Maria Putsko, who I start this campaign for, is a PhD student at Jessenius Faculty of Medicine in Martin at Comenius University in Bratislava. She would be delighted to share one of her rational rants if you ask her. The bottom line is that the active participation on conferences has somewhat stopped being covered by the faculty (which is basically the job description of PhD students apart from publication of articles), and it is not cheap. Yes, the PhD students receive a monthly scholarship, but we both can stretch our budget only so much. As the field she specializes in, Forensic Anthropology, is not really developed in Slovakia, the best opportunities to learn and gain new experience is on conferences abroad. She is very dedicated to the cause and looking for conferences which will grant a value added after the participation. Lately she was accepted for a BABAO (British Association for Biological Anthropology and Osteoarchaeology) conference in London for a podium presentation, which she earned by preparing a thorough proposal for. I know there will be more in the future, but I don't know how many will be made possible due to bearable expenses. If it cannot be grants (which take a long time to come alive) or support from our own resources, I am hoping to raise anything that could help cover the flight, accommodation and most importantly the registration fee to attend the conference.
In the notion of every cent/penny helps, I wish your science seeking journey a smooth(er) sail.
Thank you everyone who made it to the very end, we appreciate everyone's contribution to this cause. I pledge all the funds raised by this campaign will be used solely for science purposes.
I love you Maria
