12/12/2020 Update: Baby is HOME sweet HOME

Attention to all

Finally Starting last night, After more than 2 months from the hospital recovering from 2 surgeries, Baby Daphnie is now home!

Despite all that, she still needs to be monitored by her pediatrician via photos and videos.

To all our relatives, friends, and friends of friends here and abroad, thank you very much for your supports...

This is not yet the end of her fight and we aren't careless to lower our guard monitoring her condition...

Mother Academia was delivered a baby girl premie last September 25, 2020 at 8:45am due to Pre-Eclampsia, Hypothyroidism and Acute Kidney Injury. The baby was born at 30 weeks of gestation and was admitted at NICU with very low birth weight (1.105kg)

Patient was intubated at 31st hour of life due to Respiratory Distress. Hooked to a mechanical ventilator. Abdominal Enlargement was also noted. Abtibiotics were changed into a broader spectrum.

On 4th day of life, increased in abdominal enlargement was noticed (Abdominal circumference at birth-18cm, Day 4 -30cm). Referred to Pediatric Surgery Service and patient underwent placement of penrose drain for Advance Necrotizing Enterocolitis.

The patient is currently admitted in our institution (Metro Antipolo Hospital and Medical Center) and being treated as case of Bacterial Sepsis of the Newborn (Unspecified) and Advanced Necrotizing Enterocolitis.

***Update for Bb. Daphnie's Condition

Baby Daphnie is now on her 19th day of life, 32 5/7 weeks corrected age which is way far to her term or maturity age. During her stay in the Neonatal ICU, her status varies from time to time. Fresh Frozen Plasma had been transfused for 3 consecutive days and 1 aliquoted unit of Packed Red Blood Cell on the succeeding day as her blood components went low. Along with this problem was the noticeable enlargement of her abdomen/belly from 18cm at birth to 30cm which prompted Doctor/Sugeon to make a Penrose Drain last September 29, 2020, after the procedure her belly measured 21cm as the air, fluid and even feces was drained. However, this soft, flexible rubber tube didn't last long because after 2-4days minimal and eventually no drainage has been observed and her abdomen/belly size is increasing. Baby Daphnie hasn't been feed of any milk since birth due to her condition. The only source of her nutrition is through Parenteral (intravenous fluid) which then became a problem because we find it difficult to insert a line since all her veins bulged easily. Her Neonatalogist inserted a PICC line on her Arm (Long, thin tube inserted through a vein in the arm and passes through larger veins near the heart) last Oct 6, 2020 so that we won't insert again and again on her tiny veins. As of now, the main problem of Baby Daphnie is her enlarged abdomen/Belly which measures 30.5cm to 31cm and luckily enough she is scheduled for an Operation called Exploratory Laparotomy, possible Ileustomy tomorrow October 14, 2020 by 9pm. This surgical operation is done wherein the abdomen/belly will be opened and other organs in the stomach will be check for any problem or disease.

We humbly need your prayers for Bb. Daphnie's Operation to be successful and safe.
