It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of our father, Dominador "Sonny" Matillano Jr. He was 68 years old and is survived by his loving wife, Teresa, and children, Gayle and Jasper.

Sonny was rushed to the hospital last October 8, 2021 because of stomach pain and loose stool. After several tests, he was diagnosed with colon cancer and needed immediate surgery to remove a big cyst that was causing obstruction in his large intestine. The surgery was done on October 12, 2021 and was successful, and we were waiting for the result of the biopsy to confirm the stage of his illness. Sonny was already on his way to recovery. However, on the night of October 17, 2021, he started having chest pains. Another round of tests were done. The next morning, October 18, 2021, the doctors informed us that he has pneumonia, a complication of the surgery that they were hoping to avoid given his condition -- an elderly with comorbidity (enlarged prostate) and considered to be immunocompromised (colon cancer). The doctors were saddened because they were supposed to send him home that day. Morning of October 19, 2021, Tuesday, he slept. The nurses tried to wake him up but he was not opening his eyes. We tried touching his feet, his arms, even his armpits, but he was not responding. Also, he did not urinate again since the nurses drained his cateter bag that morning. Past 1:00 PM, nurses tried to get some blood samples. While at it, Sonny had a seizure for two (2) minutes. The other nurses rushed to him and called the resident doctor on duty. After the seizure, his pulse rate dropped to 45/min and the nurses could not get his blood pressure. They said his heartbeat was too weak. The doctor then presented the option to intubate him, but there was no guarantee if and how long he will live. The family decided not to intubate him anymore so as not to hurt him anymore and preserve the body that he had at that moment. He has been hurting since the night he was brought to the hospital because of several blood tests. As the decision was being discussed with the doctor, the cardiac monitor showed a flat line. The doctor and nurses tried to revive him but to no avail. At 1:50 PM that day, he passed away after having multiple organ failure due to septic shock.

Heaven gained another angel named Sonny, and so did the family.

In this regard, we are knocking on your doors for financial support to help the family in paying off loans and other amounts lent to them; which covered medicines while confined, doctors' fees, and the hospital bill so that Sonny's body could be released to the family and be taken to a funeral home.

We are trying to raise PHP 600,000 (USD 11874.00, based on the conversion rate as of this writing). Donations made through this site are subject to GoGetFunding's 4% fee.
