A very useful and innovative Bulgarian social initiative needs donation to sustain its website.
The Bulgarian project “For rent, rent free”is inspired by the idea of reviving old houses in the countryside and getting people back to the villages. Its creator, Irena Nencheva – a puppet theater actress from Burgas decided to move out of the city in 2014. While looking for suitable property in the nearby villages she was struck by how many beautiful old houses were left to decay. It occurred to her that if their owners were to rent them for free in exchange for managing the property and adjacent garden/yard, this could bring back life to the villages. Although the idea may seem idealistic, the people who are standing behind it are taking a practical approach to the actual negotiations of a rent free arrangement. They encourage a clear and thorough communication between both parties, they also encourage the use of legal rental agreements so neither side suffers losses. Over the past 4 years, 286 successful partnerships have been sealed.
The creator of the concept and a small group of volunteers took care of the website during this time, but as the initiative gains on supporters and as the social interest rapidly grows, it becomes unmanageable for those volunteers to maintain the site in their spare time. So to keep their sanity and continue operating the project, they need the support of a full-time paid specialist to take over the responsibility for the website. Gaining additional financial support from donations will furthermore make it possible to properly promote the cause, for example via direct contact with landlords and renters on site. It will cover travel costs, commercial materials and other necessities.
