For my second lease in life – Kidney Transplant

Hello Kind Soul,

My friends calls me EJ, and everyone knows that I have a positive outlook in life, work hard, play hard - I believe that when you do your best at work, you are entitled to a reward to enjoy life. I typically spend my days working in the office, catching sleep at home or generally trying to catch up at whatever is going on with my life.

Earlier this year, a great battle was given to me - I was diagnosed with Chronic Kidney Disease - Stage 5, two weeks before my 29th birthday – one day, I am reaping a much needed time off then the next, I am on a hospital bed thanking I am still alive. I am the eldest among siblings, my second brother already have his own family and the youngest, is still attending high school. I am an independent person, and I do not wish any financial burden to my family. Now, with my health condition, my monthly paycheck goes directly to all my medical expenses. To keep me alive, I need to go through three sessions of dialysis every week and take tons of maintenance medications which to be honest, does not cost cheap.

As much as I want to stand by my principles that we must endure our life hardship on our own willpower and never retire on anyone’s help – my financial situation cannot simply afford it. As per my research and other patient’s attestation, I would at least need 1.6 million pesos for a kidney transplant operation alone, not including the pre-operation laboratory tests and medications. The pre-op tests, like matching test for you and your donor, would already cost me 200 thousand pesos, then if I am lucky and got through the operation, the first three months of medication post-op, would cost around 300 thousand pesos.

I am not asking for much – even few pocket changes would be greatly appreciated. There’s still so much I wanted to do in life, visit places I’ve never been to, try food I never tasted before, succeed in my career, and as the eldest child, provide for my parents as they grow old. Please help me get the chance to see more sunsets.
