HOPE bracelet for my Gastro Intestinal Stromal Tumor (GIST) Operation

Dear friends and friendly strangers,

My name is Ricky Manibo. I'm 36 years old. I'm a 3rd year student at Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM), taking up Psychology as my pre-med course. When I was young, I was not able to finish school because I had to help my parents and my siblings. I started working when I was young to be able to send my siblings to school and be the breadwinner of the family.

Now that they’ll all finished school, I decided to start with my own dream of becoming a doctor. However, I was recently diagnosed with Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST), a rare cancer affecting the digestive tract or nearby structures within the abdomen. GI stromal tumor, or GIST cancer, is a sarcoma. Sarcomas are cancers that grow from cells of the body’s connective or supportive tissues such as bone, cartilage, tendons, nerves, fat, muscle, synovial tissue (tissue around joints), or blood vessels.

The tumor size is 15cm and I was told by the doctor to have it removed as soon as possible. They might also remove my spleen and some parts of my liver.

The doctor wants to schedule my operation on September 1, 2018 at San Juan De Dios Hospital in Pasay City, Philippines. I was asked to deposit Php50,000 for them to start the laboratory tests and confirm that I am clear for a major operation.

I’m not financially stable and my family is not able to help me. All my siblings have their own family now and they are also struggling financially.

I'm taking my chance here for the people that are willing to help me financially and with their prayers. I want to get better, continue my studies, become a doctor someday to also help people in need.
