He thought it was just an ordinary swollen lymph nodes because his x-ray was read normal. The doctor in Butuan City diagnosed it as a normal condition.
Why are we doing this campaign?
Have you ever felt your heart ached and your mind blanked after hearing a bad news? That's what we felt as we heard the news about our friend diagnosed with cancer. We were totally shocked. We haven't seen each other for a long time after our gathering around a year ago where we have shared so much laughter to cherish forever. He's the kind of friend with many talents. We've been friends for around 8 years and counting. We don't want to lose him as he gives us much happiness. Our "barkadahan" won't be the same without him.
Who's He by the way?
Keano (Kean or Kea is his famous nickname), that's the name of our friend who was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer on December 6, 2018. His battle started when he was working at a BPO company as a Customer Service Representative in Manila at a young age. He sacrificed his Engineering studies to help his younger siblings achieve their dream college degrees. Poverty prevented him from reaching his dream of becoming an Engineer but he remained positive for his family. While working in Manila, he felt something wrong in his throat and voice. He consulted a doctor and the initial diagnosis was Cervical Lymphadenopathy . His working environment was one of the biggest factor his condition worsened so he decided to go home in Butuan City, Agusan del Norte. They have recovered from the financial dilemma so he decided to study forestry. His condition made him realized how important trees are that he shifted course to become a Forester instead of an Engineer.
How his condition worsened and how they discovered it was cancer?
He was in his third year in college when his illness worsened. The doctor in Butuan City said his condition was normal so he disregarded it until such time that he found it very hard to breathe. His father decided to bring him to a bigger city with fully equipped hospitals at Cagayan de Oro. A biopsy and ultrasound was done and after 2 hours of waiting, the result was released. It was Papillary Thyroid Cancer which has metastasized so it must be removed immediately. It was December 9, 2018 when he was admitted in a hospital at Cagayan de Oro City for an operation to remove those cancer cells. The operation (thyroidectomy & laryngectomy) lasted for 13 hours which runs for 4-6 hours only on ordinary cases according to the doctor. He lost his voice after the operation (and may never return). That operation alone have put them again in financial crisis but the struggle did not end there. He underwent and still undergoing Radioactive Iodine Therapies and other operation/s to make sure all cancer cells are removed. (Praying he will fully recover)
We, his friends and family has accumulated cash for his first operation which amounted to more than 200,000 pesos. His family is running out of cash to pay for the continuous treatments so we gathered all our courage to do this campaign. We are one in this battle with cancer.
This is our first time in this site doing a campaign humbly asking for some help to kind hearted man, woman, LGBT community and everyone who have money to spare for charity (Sadaqah).
Every donation even the smallest would be a great help (even by just sharing this campaign).
