Hello to you all animal and cat lovers. I am new to tumblr. Let me tell you from the start that I am creating this blog to get some financial support for my two beloved, adopted daughters, my two beautiful cats who are the light of my life…and ultimately for myself!
I am a young(ish) man, living in a quiet little town near the Swedish border in Norway.
A few years ago I was struck by an autoimmune disease (SLE) that nearly killed me. I had to stay at a hospital for 6 months and another 4 months at a physical rehab centre just to learn to walk again.
After my hospital ordeal came the realisation that I was not able to work or handle physical stress any more. Then came the financial crisis and the depression that followed. I had to get used to living with very little money due to my forced, early retirement.
I won’t bore you with the details of my illness, but if you are familiar with Lupus, I just tell you that I have the worst kind. My entire body sometimes goes crazy and starts fighting itself from within.
After my life altering hospital ordeal I moved from Oslo to this small border town to take care of my father who suffered from Alzheimer’s. It wasn’t easy, but I just could not let my father end up in a nursing home. It also gave me a reason to live.
About a year later my father passed away. I was suddenly completely alone. Most of my friends had abandoned me because they did not (could not) understand the nature and magnitude of my illness and how little energy I had to give.
When I was at the lowest point of my life and completely alone, a cat came to my door. We quickly became friends and he chose to stay at my place. I found out later from my visiting nurses that he was an old cat who had lived at the local nursing home for many, many years. His name was Pelle.
Pelle took care of me as much as I took care of him. Why he chose to come and stay with me after all those years at the nursing home, I will never know. But if there are really angels in this world, Pelle was one!
Through the nurses I found out that Pelle had tumours in his stomach and did not have much time to live. Well, almost a year later he stopped eating and started licking me much more than usual. I did some research and found out that it was a cat’s way to console himself and the owner when he knows the time to go is getting near.
One night my best friend went out and never came back. Imagine how I felt. A few months passed and finally one day I started looking at my regional animal protection website. I looked for cats that needed new homes. I found an adorable kitten and called the lady who was temporarily taking care of her.
When the time came for me to pick her up, the lady said that the kitten and her sister were inseparable and asked me if I could adopt them both. I said yes and suddenly I was the father two little girls!
So, long story short…I have had Sookie and Lita for almost a year and a half now. I love them as much as anyone could love their children. They are my best friends and daddy’s little princesses.
Say what you want about a grown man who has two cats. I don’t care! I never thought of myself as a cat person, but I guess I became one when I realised that you can get more unconditional love and understanding from an animal than from some humans.
So now that I have told you my sob story, here’s the reason for creating this blog:
As I said before, I do get very little money to live on from my retirement. Although we have a good social health insurance system here in Norway, not all my medical expenses are covered by that insurance and sometimes, not to mention the high cost of vet visits I have to make sacrifices here and there and sometimes it gets really tough to get by. But I can never let my girls suffer because of my financial situation. Last month I had the girls spayed and had to borrow €400 from a friend at the animal protection organisation. Paying back this loan is very difficult in the current situation, and I am worried what would I do in a case of medical emergency for the girls
So I guess I am hoping to get some help from animal lovers who read this to make my little family’s life a bit easier. I have seen people asking for donations on tumblr, and others on Facebook, so I figured it wouldn’t hurt to ask.
If you have found your way to this page and find my cause worthy, however little help would be greatly appreciated. Any raised funds will be used primarily to pay back the loan from the kind people at the animal rescue and protection, and then for food, medicine and any future vet visits for the girls. I will post pictures of the girls later on.
Thank you for reading.
