For Mukhlis Idris.

On April 4, 2011, my best friend, Mukhlis Idris was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer. He was just starting his work as a junior doctor when it all changed for him. But, he just smiled. He was now the patient, in and out of hospital. Countless days became weeks in the hospital bed. He went through a cycle of chemotherapy, another cycle and then another. He smiled. He lost his hair, grew it back, lost it again. Still, smiling. Cancer got to his lungs. Smiled. He has never, ever complained or burdened anyone with his pain. He has never spoken out how much it hurts him. But most importantly, he has never stopped smiling. 

In his own words, 

“Life has been a great teacher to me. Being a doctor does not exclude me from having a disease called cancer. The big C, people call it. (...) Death would be a possible conclusion to this chapter. But for now my heart remains strong and and my soul remains unbroken. Everyone dies so let us make that clear. (...) A meaningful life means a life where you have done your best surviving it. I am telling myself to have another go."

Currently, Mukhlis has just completed another cycle of chemotherapy and is waiting to undergo radiotherapy. He is to undergo a stem cell transplant. All of this is extremely expensive. And I want to keep that smile on his face. So I really want to help him.
