My mom is a single parent who raised me. Last year, a tumor was found in her lungs. And we need medical assistance to diagnose her illness. She is a loving mother who shows great care and compassion towards her child and others around her. A kind person who is gentle, good-natured, friendly, considerate, selfless, genuine and helpful. Watching her how she treated people all my life made me a better person. We hope to touch your heart by sharing our story.

My name is Arsenia, I am here to ask help for my mama, her name is Imelda Arogante. Before we found out that she has a lung tumor, she already has gastritis and asthma. She has been suffering from this since 2020 and she's been coughing for 8 months now. At first we thought that it was just a normal cough that would go away after a few days but it's not, it seems like it never goes away. We consulted a private physician nearby our place on May 11, 2021 but since the prescribed medicine is not effective we don't see any improvement at all.

When we got her X-ray result on May 12, 2021, we went back to the medical clinic to know what the findings were. The doctor requested for a laboratory test including her creatinine and CT scan chest plan. This request was released on May 14, 2021 but we had her CT scan on July 30, 2021, since we just got help from our friend during that time. Months have passed by and we haven't processed her laboratory test due to financial problems. Since the pandemic started, the restaurant where my mother is working has closed and she can't have a separation pay since she is not yet a regular employee though she is already working there for over a year as a dishwasher.

I am the only one who supports my mother since it's just the two of us in life. Also here's the hardest part. It's quite a long story but I cannot cover or enroll her as dependent on my company health card because she is not my mother written in my birth certificate though she is my biological mother. My parents in my live birth were my grandparents on the father's side. Also my salary is just enough for our monthly bills (house rent, water bill, Meralco, internet, food plus her meds).

She has no medical insurance or health plan. I tried to enroll her for a yellow card here in Makati where we can have free medical consultations and all exclusively for Ospital ng Makati (OSMAK). Since we're expecting that we can process the biopsy in that hospital for free. But it never happened. It's been tough for me to consistently send her to the hospital since I have a low income. Whenever we consult a clinic it's always cash basis since she doesn't have a health card.

Fortunately, there are people who could lend me money to send my mother for a consultation and laboratory test just to check her by the specialist for her disease. Actually, I brought her to multiple clinics and hospitals here in the city. The second doctor that checked her from Aventus requested to test her Sputum because in her X-ray result it says this may be part of PTB (Pulmonary Tuberculosis). She had it when I was in elementary school back in 2008 but she had finished her medication for that. We did that test and the result was negative. The sputum test result was released on July 26, 2021.

We also registered her online for a consultation to public hospital in Makati known as Ospital ng Makati (OSMAK) since they don't accept walk-in patient and we waited for over a month to check her condition and it's just tele-consult but after we have consulted and processed the laboratory they asked, they haven't reach out to us for months. It's really hard to get urgent treatment from a public hospital. It's like taking forever and there's no progress at all, we are expecting we can do the biopsy in that hospital but since it's public there's nothing we can do just to wait. Tried to follow it up multiple times but they are telling me the same thing, to wait for a call from the OPD department regarding the findings of the laboratory test.

Day by day her condition is getting worse, whenever I look at her she really looks sick even though she is not saying anything. I know she's suffering so much pain due to her lung tumor. She lost weight from 51 kg to 45 kg and kept coughing all night. It's been like 7 months that we both have sleepless nights. So I decided to bring her to a pulmonologist in UST Hospital. I heard doctors there are good, maybe in that way she can get the right treatment that she needs.

We went there on November 23, 2021. The doctor's name is Dr. Julius Dalupang prescribed meds that were great because they were instantly effective, it was the first time she could sleep well when she took them before bedtime. I think it was the right decision I made because she's been coughing non stop since the 30th of April. She took prednisone and it stops her from coughing at night however it's just a temporary medication for the preparation of CT scan. After she finished taking it she started coughing again. The doctor requested for a laboratory test again and a new CT scan with contrast since the last CT scan was made almost 4 months ago.

On December 6, 2021, we did the creatinine required for my mama before she got her CT scan schedule. Then we went back to Dr. Julius Dalupang to get her a pulmonary clearance, also to check her up with her current condition since she's been coughing again after she finished the 15 tablets of prednisone. She keeps on coughing at night until morning.

On December 12, 2021, at around 3:00 PM it's the first time that this happened to mama she had a partial stoke she can't feel the half of her body, it started from her feet, leg going up to the upper body her heart beats so fast until it went to her face. Luckily, she recovered during that time. I still rushed her to Santa Ana Hospital because I am worried that it would happen again. But then the public hospital had no help at all. They just checked my mother's blood pressure and 4 hours have passed and my mama hasn't been checked by the doctor. They made us wait for CBC and the Medical Technologies never came. I just decided to discharge her from that hospital since we couldn't seek urgent help from them.

The next day, we did the laboratory test and CT scan with contrast, we got the result on December 13, 2021, the impression of the second CT scan is "Interval increase in the size of left lower lobe pulmonary mass with interval development of several adjacent satellite nodules in the left lower lobe measuring up to 1.6 cm in diameter and mild adjacent hazy infiltrates (likely secondary to post-obstructive pneumonia). The tumor gets bigger than the size of it from the first CT scan we took. Then we went back on December 17, 2021 to show the result and wait for the next step.

The recommendation of Dr. Julius Dalupang is the same with DR. Mallari, her first doctor near our place, is to undergo a CT guided biopsy. He referred us to the radiology department, to Dr. Noli Almazan in UST hospital. The two doctors who assisted us and discussed how much the estimated cost would be. They told us that she needs to be admitted for 3 days for preparation of the CT guided biopsy. And before they could schedule us for the needed procedure, there are some requirements that we need to submit, for me RT-PCR (Covid-19 Swab) and X-ray, for mama bleeding parameters (PT,APTT, IMR, Percent Activity) and CBC with platelet, RT-PCR (Covid-19 Swab) and X-ray. And for now I just don't know where I could get P70,000 , doctor's professional fees are excluded to this amount since they mentioned that they are not sure how much the exact amount it will cost, plus the lab test that needs to be submitted.

Every night she can't sleep well due to the pain she feels from her lung tumor, she suffers chest pain, coughing and feeling weak. And at exactly 6:10 am today January 5, 2021 she had a partial stroke again, I don't know how exactly I would describe it because I am not that familiar with medical terms but half of her body became numb. I am worried about her, especially since I can't rush her to the hospital during this time because hospitals are full of COVID-19 patients. Number of Covid-19 cases went high this month.

It's been 19 days since the last time we visited UST Hospital, it seems like it's a dead end journey for me because I know to myself that I don't have that kind of money in the bank. I never had that kind of amount in my entire life. But all I am doing everyday is to hope for God's miracle that one day she would feel completely well. I already reach out to my relatives, friends, co-workers but they cannot support us that much since they also have their personal problems. I am her only daughter, I have no siblings I can lean on, it's just me and my mama. I have no one to ask for help. That is why I am here to ask help from anyone who has a good heart and who is willing to help us. I cannot do this alone. Any little bit of help will be appreciated. She's all that I have and I can't imagine my life without her. Please, help my mama. I cannot return the favor, but I pray that your kindness will not go unnoticed by God.

Thank you in advance. God Bless you all!
