Mellie Monreal, 67 years old, is a loving mother and wife. She needs a brain surgery to remove a benign tumor that now has rendered her quadriplegic. We were hoping we will have more time to raise money for her operation but the doctor has recommended it to be done as soon as possible, before she totally loses control of her bodily functions, which includes swallowing when eating. Right now, she is taking anti-convulsion medication 3x a day to prevent seizures caused by the pressure exerted by the growing tumor. The surgery would have to be followed up by a gamma knife treatment to ensure that the tumor will not grow back, and a physical therapy to regain her mobility.
I myself have done humanitarian work over the years, I put up an NGO, Damgo sa Kaugmaon, after Super Typhoon Haiyan, and after numerous fund raising, have helped thousands of families. However, NGO work does not really pay well, oftentimes I don't get paid at all, I did it anyway and got the job done. It was a passion and doing God's work. Over the years though I neglected my financial sustainability and didn't foresee an event like this happening. I really don't have the money for the operation and treatment, I had to stop my NGO work to start earning again. Pressed for time, now it is my turn to ask for help, for my Mama.
