This campaign aims to raise some funds for a friend who I know has been going through a lot.

Her name is Ellaine May Arabia, she's a 20 year old who juggles being a mom to an adorable 18-month old Luke, a part-time barista in Starbucks and a third year accounting student.

I’ve only met her when I first entered Starbucks, around late 2015, also as a part-time barista but even though that was less than three years ago, given that I have left the company same time last year and that we haven’t been in the same store ever since she gave birth, we still managed to be really close. I guess it’s her bubbly personality and light aura that makes me want to keep her around. Actually, I think that’s why a lot of people are so drawn into her. She’s nice and really one of the smartest and strongest young women I have ever known.

Struggling through daily life to raise her child and reach her dreams of being an accountant by dealing with frappuccinos and coffee everyday, I think she already has too much in her hands. But, of course, life always has its ways.

Earlier this year, she lost her closest older brother to colon cancer. And he was 26.

Earlier this week, on our random catch up talks, she mentioned that she was yet again in the hospital, this time for her father who has been coughing up blood.

They were first admitted to Medical Center Paranaque, the closest cheapest hospital to their area of residence, but was asked to transfer to the nearby small private hospital after two days because, as it turns out, they didn’t have any doctors to assess him. Their bill was at P11k.

He was transferred to a nearby small private hospital, with his own room because he needed to be isolated due to his condition. They went through a lot of procedures —x-rays, citiscan, ultrasounds, which of course cost them another lot.

What bothers Ellaine though is that she thinks they are only making her father’s condition far worse. She was able to share that last Thursday (May 31), after the nurse gave him his meds, he started coughing blood nonstop and was able to fill almost a whole cup with blood within 20mins. He also started having blood come out of his nose.

They were advised that the father needs more blood and to be in the ICU for monitoring while they wait for the transfer to Philippine Lung Center where the proper treatment will start. Their bill last Friday was at whopping P78k.

Thankfully, they were able to get the requirements needed to get him to PLC, but there wasn’t any available room so they have to do the transfer next week.

Her father was diagnosed with Pulmonary Tuberculosis with cicatricial atelectasis on his left upper lobe, and needs operation.

That's all the details that I have for now, and still needs to get an update about her father's condition. I can't do much especially financially, that’s why I thought of starting this fund raising.
