Campaign Story
In the height of the drug war, in August 2017, our 19-yo Chicko was put to prison for possession of 5 grams of marijuana when the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) did an operation in Puerto Princesa, Palawan. There were a lot of technicalities and inconsistencies on how PDEA handled the operations and Chiko's former lawyer had assured us that the case was going to be dismissed. Chiko is now 21-yo and had been detained for 2 years already. Last February 11, during promulgation, Chiko was sentenced to life in prison which came as a shock since our lawyer pointed out that there were a lot of obvious lapses from PDEA's operations.
This appeal is our last chance to fight for our position in this case. To have it dismissed. Legal fees for the court of appeals and lawyer's fees have already bloated to PHP 450,000. We are hoping to hire a new lawyer who have won (a lot) of more complicated drug related cases and has a good track record.
We have been raising funds since we found out about the court's verdict of life imprisonment in February and have saved up half of the total cost needed. The notice from the Court of Appeals came earlier than expected. We haven't saved enough. We just need to raise at least PHP 200,000 in 23 days starting today, for the new lawyer's legal fees and the the appeal has to be filed within 23 days. (August 8, 2019)
I am a single mother who raised 2 children out of my own savings and hardwork and now making a living from selling homemade hot sauce. Over the course of two years, we have spent about a hundred thousand on legal fees and at least 5 thousand a month for his food supply, necessities and other expenses since he was detained in jail. the food and living condition in there is quite appalling.
Your support would be a huge help in our efforts to bring Chiko back in our home, in school and to live a normal life of a young adult who still has a bright future ahead of him. He's only 21 and as his mom, I can't bear the thought that he's going to spend the rest of his life in prison.
We are grateful for your donations and even the smallest amounts can make a big difference.
