My brother Ayel has been hospitalized 3 times since June 2020. Last year, he was hospitalized twice and was found to have bile sludge during his ultrasound. He has been on maintenance medication since then. Two weeks ago, he was hospitalized again as he was severely jaundiced, had constant abdominal pain, on and off fever/chills, and very lethargic. His recent ultrasound showed that he has nodules in his liver aside from the bile sludge. Furthermore, his CT scan showed that there is a mass found at his ampullary region. His doctors advised that he needs to undergo an ERCP (Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography) to correct his bile ducts and pancreas by placing a stent and performing a biopsy of that mass found in his ampullary region. ERCP is currently not available in any hospital in Surigao City, so the doctors said that we have to travel to Davao to have this procedure done. They also stressed that my brother needs to have this procedure done urgently, as prolonging it will only do harm to his liver and other organs.

My brother Ayel has special needs - he has Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). He doesn't fully understand why he has to be in the hospital. He has no idea about ERCP or his present medical condition, he just knows that his stomach hurts. He sometimes has moods and tantrums, he is not used to being around strangers. He needs to either watch TV or use earphones to listen to music to calm him down when he feels uneasy. He has certain quirky habits and routines.

He also has Type 2 Diabetes. I give him insulin shots daily and have to constantly monitor his blood sugar levels.

It is already challenging given that we are still in a pandemic and we have to travel 6-7 hours from Surigao City to Davao City for my brother's ERCP and ampullary mass biopsy. Not to mention, the requirement of swab testing just to be allowed into Davao. Government hospitals are already inundated with Covid patients and might not be able to accommodate us, so we have to get my brother into a private hospital for the ERCP and apullary mass biopsy.

My brother needs your support. I have already exhausted my savings for his 3 previous hospitalizations, so we desperately need your help. We would greatly appreciate it if you can give any amount you can spare to help fund his medical expenses. You can choose to send your donations through the following:

Ayel at Caraga Regional Hospital

Update posted by Mary Grace Ramos at 11:53 pm

Ayel was brought to Caraga Regional Hospital on Friday, April 30th, as he was feeling pain on his bicep, thigh and foot aside from the constant abdominal pain. He was so weak that he needed assistance to walk or even change clothes. His doctor said that his hemoglobin is low. . . . .
