For AKI’s PPHN Treatment and Hospital Bills

Dear Friends,

This is Zusette Brown. We are knocking at your kind hearts to extend some financial help. I created a personal fundraising/donation campaign to help my sister Ann and her baby.

My sister’s newborn son, AKI, have difficulty breathing after few hours from birth last August 6th at 7:03am and experienced multiple episodes of seizures which is very alarming for a newborn.

Multiple doctors and specialists have recommended different lab test and treatments to roll out possible causes of the seizures. Just last night, after 2D echo was performed they found out that AKI has Persistent Pulmonary Hypertension in the Neonate (PPHN). PPHN is a serious breathing condition in a newborn in which lung vessels are not open wide enough, meaning that oxygen and blood flow is restricted.

AKI is still confined at Chong Hua Hospital - Mandaue inside the neonatal intensive care unit with intubation to aid his breathing. Being confined there is different, patient needs to have money deposited in their account for doctors to perform any procedure/test and give the medication needed. It’s always out of the pocket situation since they don’t have health insurance. My sister was discharged yesterday and now resting in their apartment. She chose to be discharged earlier 2 days after her C-section delivery to avoid additional piling of overwhelming hospital bills.

Baby AKI is not yet stable and need more intensive monitoring of his breathing patterns for the next few days. This means that every day the hospital bills to pay are still going and piling fast.

The prognosis, with medicine, doctors are hoping to see significant positive progress in the next few hours or days to come.
