Football Clinic 2.0 with Let’s Go PLay OutSide!

Let’s Go Play Outside! was initiated in 2016 with a spirit of inquiry into how public playgrounds can be used as a locus to bring different communities in a neighbourhood together to interact informally. The project was also interested in engaging children from less privileged backgrounds through art, design, and sports activities. Toa Payoh Lorong 1 Park was the first neighbourhood to be engaged for a period of two years and counting.

Football Clinic was developed as both a “need” and a “want” for the children and youth engaged in Let’s Go Play Outside! While the sport itself demands commitment and discipline from the children (no more playing 5 minutes, quarrelling 10 minutes!), our mix-gender, mix-race, mix-socio-economic football team helps to foster friendships across different backgrounds. What’s more, it’s something that the children really wanted, as opposed to an activity that is designed for them. Apart from playing football, the children will also take part in art and design activities that encourage them to design their own player’s profile, FC logo, and planning of the match.

Our coaches, Rishi and Moagesh, are young adults who play in local football clubs and are working towards professional careers in the sports and social sciences. Football Clinic is thus also a support for youth to develop their passion and be the role models that children can most resonate with. BUDGET

Football Clinic 2.0 consists of 7 training sessions and 1 match. We hope to engage 6 paying participants and 10 participants in the neighbourhood who have been actively taking part in our activities. This is the breakdown of the budget

Let’s Go Play Outside! was recently awarded by ourSGfund $20,000 (based on a projected budget of $64,000) for an one-year program to be conducted regularly at Toa Payoh, Boon Lay and another location. Any donation from the public to Football Clinic 2.0 translates to freeing funds allocated by ourSGfund to other programs which consists of over one hundred activities that support the development of the communities in the neighbourhood, as well as youth and professionals interested in creating works for and with the community.
