Very little food aid in the time of the corona virus has reached our village here in Namaqualand. A large part of the population is poor and are dependent on grants. In normal times people will supplement that by going out and looking for jobs which will pay daily wages. In lockdown they can not do these jobs to supplement their grants. Our town, Kamieskroon is surrounded by 4 rural communities who live in further extreme poverty. These towns have no food shops and the people can't afford to rent transport to get to the nearest town which is an hour's drive. We would like to raise enough money to provide basic food packages for as many families as we can. Our local fundraiser has raised enough money to help people in our own town, but we simply do not have the means to help the other surrounding towns. With your help we can ensure that these families can at the very least get through lockdown without going hungry.

Food packages will include basic dry foods, basic vegetables, and some basic personal hygiene products. We are trying to get enough donations as quickly as we can so that we can purchase the food and start distributing it. The extension of lockdown in South Africa has made this most urgent. Please donate any amount to help us help these families during this extremely difficult time.

We kindly thank everyone who is helping us to feed the poorer people in and around our community.
