Winter Aid for Dunkirk

The last few months in Dunkirk and Calais have been extremely difficult for the people stranded there and Mobile Refugee Support (MRS) are on the ground offering assistance wherever they can. At OHOB we are supporting this fellow grass roots group because one of our volunteers dedicates so much of his time going over to Dunkirk and Calais in a van, full of much needed aid items donated by all the amazing people around the South West.

MRS operate 2 vehicles and do evening patrols around Calais and Dunkirk offering sleeping bags, phone charging and a hot drink. They can also offer shelter to people as they will have a few tents and tarpaulins. At this time of year these items could all be a life saver. MRS work closely with Dunkirk women’s and children’s centre, alerting them to any vulnerable families. They are simply mobile heroes and they need our help for the winter months so they can keep supporting the refugees who are there.

The money raised on this fundraiser will be used to buy essential food and aid items like rice, tomatoes,kidney beans, chick peas, lentils, milk, cooking oil, tinned fish, tarpaulins, socks and underwear. These food items are used to put together family packs that can feed a family for a few days and ensure that this winter they don't go hungry or suffer with the freezing temperatures.

Robert Butler and Rowley Surridge are my van and Calais heroes - they are pictured with friend Mark (who also gives up his time!) and a trolley full of rice - they give up so much of their time and energy and ask for nothing in return. So, lets help them to fill they van up once again for their visit in December 15th - 17th - lets help MRS get stocked up for the winter months.

A few weeks ago with your help we managed to send over £325 worth of food (see picture) - lets do this again and help those who need it....I have seen for myself the conditions in Calais and how many vulnerable young children and young people are living. Over the coming months temperatures will drop and they will need us more than ever.
