SMALL TOWN BOY WITH A DREAM TO SERVE HUMANITY!
The Dutch immigration authorities won’t allow me to reach for the opportunity of a lifetime without your help.
I’ve lived my entire life isolated in a small town in Morocco called Ait Baha, if not for the internet. It’s the kind of town where there is one main road and buildings huddle closely for warmth. I would run down to a small shop in a garage called a “Cyber” where I could connect to the internet. Unlike other kids who would play video games, I fell in love with learning design.
I would watch video tutorials and I quickly picked up how to use Photoshop, Illustrator & InDesign. My father was an Arabic teacher, now retired, who appreciated that type of work ethic and passion. He bought me a computer and encouraged me to learn calligraphy in primary school.
By the time I reached middle school, I could draw letters in photoshop and my computer was my window to the world. I began to ponder the interactions we have with technology and whether they are designed for our benefit as humans.
I dedicated my entire high school years to get better at design so that I could one-day design technology that places the human at the centre. I finally have this opportunity to reach for this grand dream. This small-town boy has gotten accepted at a premiere design university in the Netherlands!
Wittenborg University of Applied Sciences is my opportunity to contribute to humanity by designing technology that takes into consideration the human first. Especially the differing needs and experiences of diverse people, cultures and abilities.
But, I can’t get out of this small town and study UX Design without your help. My father as the sole breadwinner of the family, and a retired teacher, has contributed all his savings but they only cover so much.
The Dutch Immigration Authorities require that I have in my bank account the entire amount needed to fund my studies in the Netherlands, which is a total 11,000 Euros for one year. However close we can get to this amount will go a long way to making my dream possible. I’ve been working as a freelance designer and continue to do so to help fund my livelihood but I can’t get to that amount without your contribution.
I intend to pay your contribution forward. Jazakumu Allahu Khayran.
