FOCUS KENYA is a "YOUNG LEADERS" Forum formed as a common platform to enable young people canvas their agenda and to forge a common front irrespective of party affiliation and ethnic backgrounds.

As a national movement, FOCUS officially opens its doors to all leaders across all walks of life interested in realising the two strong agenda above stated

1. The ongoing change process in the country through BBI

2. Issues affecting young people in Kenya

3. How you feel that we can best realize our vision

I believe that we MUST have by now all gone through our WORKING PAPER for FOCUS.

Allow me to therefore engage you further.

Kenya is a very youthful country. The median age is estimated at 19 years, and about 80 percent of Kenya's population is below 35 years.

However, the minority aged 55 and beyond rule.

Who gives the minority power and authority to rule? It is the young! Approximately 60% of voting population is made up of the youth.

Why then is the youth block larger yet hold no power?

1. The youth are uncontrolled.

We thrive in chaos and our lives lack order. It is therefore a challenge entrusting leadership responsibility to the young

2. Divisions

Young people are the most divided lot of the population. Whereas senior politicians have only two main groupings of Kieleweke and Tanga Tanga, Embrace and INUA DADA, youth are divided into smaller outfits.

This takes away our corporate bargaining power. In other words, young people lack voice because we lack a platform.

The young always fight the young. We are not supportive of ourselves.

3. Criticism

Most young people are considered highly critical with very little constructive and productive contributions.

4. DEPENDANCE CULTURE

Most young people are highly dependent on leading elites for handouts. This takes away the honour and denies us opportunity to grow.

These elites therefore control the young with stipends that cannot help them.

5. Socio economic empowerment

I consider this least because he who has money will always engage he who has an idea even if the person has no money

FOCUS provides us a platform to constructively engage.

It is offers a common platform to enable the young forge a united front while strategically position for leadership.

I therefore request that we consider suggesting the several way through which we can realize this.
