Campaign Story
The Natural Women's Council, in partnership with other grassroots organisations (Lawyers For Justice Ireland, Parent's Rights Alliance and Irish Education Alliance) are raising funds to print information leaflets to inform parents about the proposed changes to the RSE/SPHE curriculum in Ireland. We need to do this quickly as schools will be closing for summer break. We have been campaigning through social media, letter campaigns, radio interviews and live events. However, many parents are still unaware of what is being proposed for their children's education so we need to get to the schools and streets with leaflets!
The leaflet will outline the changes and provide resources for parents.
We strongly oppose gender ideology being taught as 'fact' to school children.
Gender Identity is defined in the draft curriculum as ‘a person’s felt internal and individual experience of gender, for example, cisgender, transgender, non-binary, which may or may not correspond with the sex assigned to them at birth’. The curriculum is teaching children to refer to people who ‘identify’ as their biological sex as ‘cisgender’, as though girls and boys should no longer exist. It is full of ideas and terminology associated with the transgender movement which we believe will confuse children with the potential to cause psychological damage. Teachers are aware that children and teenagers often struggle with changes that happen to them during puberty. They may feel uncomfortable with their bodies and suffer from lack of self-confidence. Through the proposed curriculum they will be taught that, rather than learning to be comfortable with who they are and biological sex they were born with, they should question whether they should choose to identify as a different gender.
Any funds raised, after we get leaflets sent to every county, will be used towards the 11th of July event (12:00 on Kildare St side of Leinster House) to show that we do not consent. Expert speakers and solutions! Plenty of leaflets will be distributed!
