Flood Prevetion Dams in Vietnam

Dear Friends and  Donors,

we have never before asked anybody for help and are not even sure how to approch you all here - but we feel that we have to do whatever it takes to continue helping the people which are very close to us in Vietnam.

About a year ago my wife and me started to help some family members, our friends and neighbors in the South of Vietnam to protect their rice fields from future flooding -  which now seems to happen much more frequently than ever before - these catastropes we rarely see or hear about in the international news.

During the last year I lost substantial parts of my job. For this reason our income now is much lower and we can not continue this work without help.

We started  to  build much bigger Canals with higher Dams to protect the fields behind them . On top of the new dams we started and  continue to plan to grow also different plants - which will help to geneate a little additional  income for the farmers and make them more independent from only rice growing. In the last years it was getting much more difficult to make a living from this income.

For digging 300m or 400m canal, plus for protecting it  from collapsing again  and  to prepare the dam for growing plants - we spent about 1800 to 2000 Dollars until now.

Of course this project could go on for as long as we can find help and money to build more protecting dams - but we urgently need aditional 10.000 to 13.000 Dollars to protect at least one completely enclosed and protected area of the rice fields.

Most of the people here have a very low income anyway. The farmers earn even much less money than workers in the towns, and the situration is getting worse every year. With a  monthly family income of about 80 to 130 Dollars, nobody can afford to spend money for preventing protection at all. But once we can pay for the machines, they all are ready to help whereever possible.
