Campaign Story
The Jewish community of Balatonfőkajár dates back to the 1800s, and it was the biggest around 1850. Back then there were roughly 60 Jewish families there. Later some of them moved to the cities nearby (e.g. Siófok). There was even a very famous conductor, Sir George Solti, whose family was from Balatonfőkajár and his ancestors’ grave is in the cemetery. By now there is almost no sign of a Jewish community ever existing, except for the cemetery and a few other documents. We explored the history of the Jewish community in the village and started a website for the cemetery, if you are interested please take a look https://balatonfokajartemeto.wordpress.com. The cemetery has been neglected, it is not even on the maps (not even on Google) and most of the citizens do not know about it. That is why we want to raise money, for removing the vegetation, standing up the graves and putting a fence around.
Rewards
By sending this type of donation you will "adopt" one of the graves. This means that recive a photo and any information we can find about the grave.
