The story of Godliver

Meet Godliver, she is among one the many orphaned children that goes to Blessed Junior School in Kenya. She lost her Dad and Mom in an accident 6 years ago and lives with her Aunt. Her poor ailing aunt cant afford to take her to other schools since she cant pay. Eating three meals a day in their home is a challenge. Blessed School is giving Godliver and other children an opportunity to be in school and also feeding them.

About Blessed Junior School

Blessed School is a Community elementary school located in a small town in western Kenya. There are 420 students and 19 teachers who study and live with these children on this small campus. The school has a small class from kindergarten to the fifth grade of elementary school, with a total of 7 classes. Because of lack of enough classrooms, some grades are being combined. In the same classes, there are children from different towns and different languages. They all like school very much. They want to learn more and they are eager to know the world through knowledge. Even if they have to go a long way from home to school, they still enjoy it.

The school also provides a lot of convenience for these children like Godliver. In order to help these children from poor family background, the school provides breakfast and lunch for these children, but even then, these children may still have no dinner, and may have to go hungry to help the family live.

The challenge

This school is not funded by the government. All sources of income rely on outside donations, and some may contribute spontaneously to parents. At present, the biggest expense of the school lies in the students' breakfast and lunch problem. The school of more than 400 people may spend more than 2,000 US dollars in a month. Even with such huge numbers, the children's lunch is just a very simple food (corn, peanuts, soybeans, etc.), and some students in the school may still be unable to eat enough. In the face of such a group of lovely children, the teachers in the school really have more than enough energy. They can bring spiritual and intellectual help and encouragement to the children, but there is not enough money to support such a huge food cost. Here is the budget of the school kids' feeding programme. I hope that you can lend a helping hand and give a little strength to help these children who are eager to learn.

The Appeal

Below is a breakdown of the cost of food for the month of the children:

1. Rice = $613

6. Finger millet = $67

7. Milk = $39

8. Peanut = $60
