I have been given the most amazing opportunity, that come January I will be teaching kindergarten in Zambia, Africa. I recently graduated college and I knew in my heart that it was the perfect time to embark on what has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember and that is to try and make a positive impact on the lives of children around the world.
Zambia has a rapidly growing population, with a shortage of government funding and teachers, so local communities have developed “community schools” to serve the need for education. These schools depend heavily on the involvement of local volunteers, because the ratio of students to teachers can be as high as 60 students to 1 teacher. In addition, a number of these schools offer reduced fees or free admission to students in need, many of whom are orphaned or living with elderly family members, who cannot afford school fees.
So here we are! Unfortunately, the barrier I always face is a financial one. I am hoping to raise enough money so that I can participate in this program and hopefully bring along much needed school supplies and some goodies for the children.
Thank you in advance for your support not only for me, but for the children in Zambia!
