First Home Deposit

Hello! I'm currently trying to save towards a deposit for my first home. I'm soon to be approaching 40 and even though I can afford to rent a home, I am unable to save much towards I deposit. I currently have about £500 saved and feel like I'm never going to have somewhere to call my own. I help out my elderly mum each month with money for food and bills which is where the 'spare' income I could use to try and get a deposit together is going.

Any little would help and would be very much appreciated.
