First For Life

First For Life (FFL) is an integrated approach towards improving the quality of emergency care for underprivileged and disadvantage communities. It seeks to ensure that a person in dire need of medical assistance, gets the help from a trained First Responder while waiting on the EMS (Ambulance Services). The current status of receiving medical assistance from the EMS (Ambulance) is hinder by the fact that these essential services are targeted by gangsterism, vandalism and thieves stealing vital equipment from our EMS Services as well as robbing the EMS Staff from there belongings. These acts make that our EMS Services don’t want to enter our communities anymore without SAPS escorting them into the area. This act of waiting on a police escort to safely escort them to the area or address of the emergency, we are losing vital emergency response time to save a life. With the Project: First for Life we want to cut down on the emergency treatment time by having trained community members that could assist in this situation while waiting on the EMS Services to arrive.

The project will be implemented in the Western Cape’s previously disadvantage communities, starting in Mitchells Plain, by the Robert Sobukwe College. Other key components of the project include a community based educational programme, school partnership programme and working with adolescent children from the community.

You will be helping to promote emergency care, education and skills development among our youth to make education and skills development more accessible in our area and give our students more future educational opportunities.
