FIRE birthed out of the desire to IGNITE the passion of under-represented, under-privileged youth in the STEM and STEAM fields. Our organization provides students an opportunity to compete and thrive in the STEM field. Youth participate in STEM competitions, prepare for internships as high school students, develop technical capabilities, engage professional engineers, prepare for standardized testing, and improve soft skills. Plus, we have fun by introducing STEM as a competition. FIRE is raising funds to ensure that the Student/Scholars are able to participate in the 2020 National Convention in San Antonio, Texas.
We are a chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE) for students, grades 6-12, interested in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). We are advised mostly by working engineers who are also members of the NSBE Greenbelt Space Alumni Chapter. FIRE (Future Innovative Rising Engineers) was named in 2009 by the students in the chapter to reflect their future goals in the STEM fields.
FIRE is a 501C3 non-profit, volunteer organization. Donations are tax deductible.
