Twins, Carla and Ané Els, are 17 years old and qualified 4 years in a row to represent South Africa in New York. Due to a lack of funding they could not fulfil their dream to represent South Africa as Triple threats in solo’s (vocals, drama and modelling) as well as duets (Fire & Ice) in vocals and drama musical theatre. They are also part of the Mpumalanga youth choir – which already qualified to go to New York in 2018.
To send them representing South Africa will be costing an amount of R160 000+ - money we don’t have but we cannot deny them the opportunity to go and gain the experience and maybe obtain a scholarship or two to study Performing Arts in New York. That is what they both want to do after finishing school– study Classical Music/Opera and Musical Theatre.
We are busy with projects to raise money but R160 000 is a lot of money and that is not the total cost – spending money (for food) and entry fees for the items in the Talent America competition where the team participate are not included.
Both girls are very hard workers and keep a very high academic standard – they are both working hard to obtain overseas scholarships to study Opera and Classical Music (B Mus). Going to New York with the team will open doors for them to further their studies overseas.
