Hanna Yumi Nicole D. Guay is an 8 year-old girl from Maragondon Cavite. She is a very playful and pretty little girl. However, behind this strong and happy facade, is a child fighting for her life as she was diagnosed having Chronic Kidney Disease.

Over time, the disease has gotten worse, causing her kidneys to not function well enough to keep her alive. At a very young age, she has now reached Stage 5 which is also known as the End Stage. Since the disease advanced in a more critical state, she’s been nabbed of the ability to live normally everyday. Her treatments are now then limited to dialysis, biopsy and kidney transplant.

However, finding a kidney donor is not an easy task. A lot of people are in the waiting list hoping to get a chance to be better and get well. Some wait for many years before receiving a kidney, but in Hanna’s case, waiting that long is not a good option. Receiving a kidney from a living donor typically lasts longer and has better function. And as much as her family wanted to help her out, her brother Yhniaki was diagnosed with the Nephritic Nephrotic Syndrome making him unfit to be a donor.

As of the moment, Hanna and Yhniaki is not losing hope in finding help and getting their chance in surviving this phase through treatments. Hanna’s faith is greater than the illness she’s experiencing right now and it shows on how she positively faces life day by day. Her family is supporting her and Yhniaki throughout this journey, but the dialysis has drained not only the Hanna’s body but their finances as well. Hanna’s mom is currently 7 months pregnant and with 280 a day salary, her father cannot sustain the expenses of their treatment even with the aid of the government. The family is really in need of financial assistance for Hanna and Yhniaki’s biopsy, which can cost them P47, 000 ($904) / each. Also, Hanna is still undergoing dialysis three times a week and is required to undergo 90 sessions.

On behalf of Hanna, her family and I are knocking at your generous hearts to give her hope in achieving a brighter future ahead.
