Finding (hope for) Dorie

This is my mom Adoracion C. Saludez or Dorie as most of her friends call her. She’s 65 years old, a very jolly mom, the go-to person of her friends when they’re in need of financial assistance and emotional support. She has helped a lot of people in our community and is known by many. Often times, we would throw a joke that she could win a barangay election as she’s very accommodating, cheerful, and pleasant person. But all of which changed when she was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer Stage 4 in April 2017.

Since then, she’s in and out of the hospital, has undergone cholecystojejunostomy (surgery to form communication between the gallbladder and the jejunum) to relieve her jaundice and gastric pain. After that, she endured 8 sessions of chemotherapy thru hospital admission and then 6 times of oral chemotherapy as outpatient.

It was heartbreaking though that after all of these, her pancreatic tumor didn’t change in size and her illness made her health deteriorate even further. She now weighs (just) 40 kilos and we were advised by her oncologist that the next possible way to lengthen her life is thru another form of chemotherapy in which the medication is only available in Singapore or Hong Kong.

She's currently admitted again at the hospital after rushing her at ER last August 1st because she has been throwing up tea-like clear liquid, has severe stomach pain and is very weak. The doctors told us that there’s an obstruction on her intestine preventing the food to pass thru. She has gone thru another operation - gastro jejunostomy (August 9) so she can again start to eat and avoid vomiting.

As much as possible, we would like to provide for her medication and hospitalization since it’s the only way to payback all the sacrifices she has to make to raise us. However, we’ve already spent millions of pesos from her previous admissions hence; we have already consumed most of our savings. In behalf of our family, we would like to seek for financial assistance to support our mom’s operation and continuous medication afterwards.

I could not see any signs of giving up from our mom and has been fighting this battle so hard that’s why we don’t have a reason to lose faith as well. We wish that our mom’s humble story will touch many hearts and help us bring further HOPE so she can still see and witness the beauty of life.
