Finding Freedom through Friendship, Inc.,
was established in 2009 to meet the needs of single mothers and elderly
women in the villages of northwestern Guatemala. The chronic stress of poverty,
illiteracy and high birth rates has created an acute need for support services
for indigenous women in the highlands of this Central American country.
Our goal is to assist participants accepted into FFF with nutrition,
social services, economic empowerment, education of their children and
basic health care needs. By networking with long-term volunteers in
rural Guatemala, we strengthen our ability to make a significant and
long-lasting difference in the lives of women who we identify as having
critical domestic issues.
The women of Guatemala are resilient. Through the sharing of resources,
knowledge and friendship, Finding Freedom through Friendship travels
with them in their journey to self-reliance.
Nobody receives an administrative salary.
100% of every donation directly benefits the mothers and their families.
My name is Greg Koury. I co-own established restaurants in Austin, Texas. My sister-in-law, Jody Greenlee, a retired pediatric nurse from Lexington, KY, started FFF ten years ago. She tirelessly volunteers her time, knowledge and monies to
meet the basic humanitarian needs of the poorest women and children in Guatemala. She traveled there, October 8 - 14, to move our 28th mother and her four young sons out of a dirt floor hut and into their new home - built with monies raised through Manuel's Summer Charity Raffle.Jody emailed the following message after she returned to the U.S. on October 14.
just returned from Guatemala (October 2017) and Egypt (August 2017), I can
assure you that our work continues to be of vital importance to the
widows we serve.
Here is an excerpt from one of our Guatemalan friends, a healthcare professional and long-term supporter of our cause. As a Guatemalan citizen, JULIO is well-versed in the needs of the widows in his country. Thanks to each of you for the hard work you do to give voice to the voiceless." Jody
"FFF has all my support to do what you think convenient for the benefit of all the families that you want to help through your foundation. Your foundation is an indescribable blessing to many families in this country, especially the poorest, and your heart gives them back the hope and confidence that they can live better thanks to people like you. Thanks for everything and I really offer you all my help in what you need done when you are not here or you cannot come. I can travel every weekend to monitor everything that is done and to pass reports of what people are doing.
Thank you for your help, thank you for helping the forgotten, thank you for your heart, thank you for your faith in people and thank God for putting people like you in this world. God bless you always." JULIO
