I am wanting to travel to Israel to Yad Vashem where I will be able to view all the records they hold from the Holocaust. From Israel I will travel to Serbia which used to be Yugoslavia where I can check town records.  I have done more then 10 years of research online and have exhausted all my resources. I know if I can take all the information that I have gathered I will be able to identify my Grandmother Emma and my mothers real maiden name which was changed. My mother would speak of horrible memories as a child of the Holocaust, with even a mention of meeting Dr. Josef Mengele. My mother would only talk about her experiences when she was under the influence of alcohol which she became addicted and would later over come her addiction. By the time I was grown and curious about our Jewish Heritage my mother had, had three strokes and couldn't write or talk.

It is so important to me to find the records so I can keep alive the memory of all of the family members who have died because of thier faith. My mother's family was from Stari futok Yugoslavia just across the daube river from Novi Sad. In January 21-23 over 8,000 Jews men, women, and children were shot and thrown into the icy river. Though they survived that event later all the remaining Jews were round up in the synogue in Novi Sad and sent directly to Auschwitz. My grandfather Anton was placed in work camps then sent to the Ukraine front where he died being a human shield for the very people who pulled him from his warm home where he tried to protect his family. My Great grandmother, grandmother, mother and auncle were relocated to Auschwitz.

I am desparate to see if I have any living relatives who survived one of the worse event in human history. I don't know my grandmothers name who was lead straight to the the ovens due to her frail age. There is so many puzzle pieces missing that I can't seem to put together the whole picture. I really need everyone's help. I know that I have a lot of work ahead of me to research all the archives but I know I will find her. I was force to bury my mother, and two half sisters in a non Jewish section of the cemetary. I would really like to be able to have the proof to  honor them all by giving them a an honorable resting place for my family and be able to place a Star of David on thier tomb stone to replace the yellow one she was forced to wear as a child.

Thank you so much for your help. May the God of Abraham, Isaiah, and Jacob bless you.

Sincerely

Cheryl Martin AKA Hefcibah
