To many, I will be the only person that benefits from the funds from this GoGetFunding. The truth is, well, I will be the person that benefits directly from the funds, BUT--and that's a big BUT (pun not intended)--this small victory I have with depression and anxiety (and of course my therapist) has/have motivated me to join the "Marginalized Writers" club (not that there's an actual physical club, at least not where I currently live).
So, what does all that info dump mean? It means I’ve been frustrated by the lack of representation of minorities in literature. Not that there are none—because there are—but I want people to have the option to read ones that are not written by or for cisgender heterosexual monogamous Caucasian men. I also prefer not to read about the female character’s complaints or reference to their periods in those books.
Note: If you follow me on Quora or Twitter , you will know that I express my frustration the exact same way in Quora (you can't plagiarize yourself, can you?) and update my progress on my book and character doodling on Twitter with the hashtag #WIP (only when I remember that I'm back on it, but that still counts).
Back to the matter at hand, the funds will mostly go to my private bank account... Wait, wait! Put down those forks!... Yup, um, ok, the funds will go to my therapist, because (as I stated above) the small victory is a only a small victory; and although winning this battle means enough to me that I'm writing this in the first place, the fight is still ongoing. Some of the funds will also go to research about things that are out of my expertise. In other words, if I'm going to write about something I don't absolutely know or have experienced firsthand, I would want to talk to/interview someone who does; and finding or talking to those people might cost money that I don't have (did I mention I was a full-time college student?).
A little about the book I'm working on (I wouldn't want to support some random stranger on the internet "working on a big thing" that I know absolutely nothing about): the title is The Presence of a Yes. The main character's name is Robyn, often "Robyn with a Y," and they're a totally normal person with feelings and a job to keep. The prologue starts with "“Thank You, Mistress” i moaned as Ash spanked me over Her knees." So, it's not exactly children friendly, but that's the thing. I want there to be some representation of what I call "social (not racial, sexual, or ethical, just generally social) minorities" in books, because--who knows?--reading it might change someone's life or perception of life.
Note: Sex isn't a bad thing. If you think sex is dirty or sinful, I would politely ask you to close this tab, because neither you nor I would not want a single cent of a sex-negative person's (aka. yours) to go into supporting sex-positivity in literature. If you are originally a sex-negative person who is curious, questioning their indoctrinated sex-negativity, or wants more positivity in their life, however, your kind donation would mean a lot to me and curious people around the world.
Two of the completely different Youtube channels hosts I watch always say two words at the end of their information sharing: Stay curious. I'm one of the most curious people I know, and it has enriched my life with knowledge and creativity. I want to share my knowledge, creativity, and of course curiosity with my readers and enrich their lives the same way educators have always been enriching mine, and your donation, regardless of the amount, will mean a lot to me; also, to go back to the very first paragraph I wrote, countless curious people will benefit indirectly from this GoGetFunding.
One last thing, speaking as a life-enriched curious person, come and join us. :)
