Our Story
My name is Mario Mitchell. I am founder and CEO of Higher Educational Outreach (HEO). A year ago, a friend of mine was going to Georgia State University and she was telling me and other friends who are in school about the financial troubles she has. She was explaining at lunch that she did not qualify for a certain amount of financial aid and her parents were in debt so they could not help her pay for schooling. She worked part-time and did not have enough money to pay student housing. So student housing put her things out in the street and she had to stay with a friend. I told her i could relate because I was in that situation a few years back. My other friends also shared their stories and I said "their should be a foundation strictly for all college students helping with all finances" and told them that since I was young, I wanted to do something that would impact the community. I've always worked in non-profits and volunteered for a good cause, and when I mentioned that statement to my friends, it hit me that I "should do this". So from there, I though out a plan to get the program started.
Impacting The Community
HEO is one of the most distinctive non-profits because we want to give subsidized services for college students to aid them. In addition to giving subsidized services, we identify the student's financial issues and plan solutions to solve the financial issues by what is causing them to financially struggle. Students will receive help with their tuition, books, rent and utilities. If this foundation is put in place, it will help as a financial relief for students to have education "which means being able financially be stable while on a mission to success in school". If this program was in place and all of a sudden taken away, it would hurt the community of college students who receive help because their not getting the help anymore. For example, if someone's only source of income was from HEO while they are in school and the program was taking away, it would really hurt that person. What will they do? What will their next step of getting help when the program is gone?
