This campaign is to feed hundreds of neglected Ugandan families with vulnerable
people (especially the Pregnant women, children, elderly and those with
underlying illnesses like HIV, TB, Hepatitis etc.), who have missed food
rations distributed by the Ugandan government and those living deep in the
villages across the country, who are unable to have at least 1
meal a day. It is horrifying to see families dying of hunger while also
trying to come to terms with the existing Government restrictions due to the
Corona virus infection within the country. On a family level, these
restrictions have been exacerbated by the low income/saving ratio
which was the norm before the country was placed under lock down, and
yet the biggest number of Ugandans are facing massive poverty margins.
This is a country where the rich are so rich and the poor are so poor, yet
corruption is the order of the day. No one cares, everybody seems to care about
themselves especially the rich, politicians and those in power. Imagine, even the funds which were meant to
cater for 2 Million vulnerable Ugandans to receive Government relief food
rations was embezzled. Imagine those who managed to get some rations provided,
narrate that the beans rations had stones mixed with them, imagine the corn
flour was substandard, it is narrated that it was not fit for human
consumption neither of the chicken,… imagine the complications expected from
feeding the poor on such food yet the better choices were available.
Imagine the complications brought towards the ill-equipped hospitals
after the citizens develop intestinal problems at the end of this pandemic or
even in the middle of it. Imagine the government social security fund IS NOT
AVAILABLE for cooperate employees yet their social security funds were
deducted from their salaries month after month, year after year. But when they
need a portion of it from the government body managing the funds,
apparently the money is not accounted for. People are
dying.... Imagine!!!! Politicians (Members of parliament) passing out
money for themselves under the pretense that it’s meant for looking after
their constituents, only for the public to air out their frustrations on social
media platforms and other channels, then they decided to return it to the
Government coffers. Imagine how heartbreaking this is. Majority of
Ugandans have been working for their "Daily Bread" i.e. 1 to 2
dollars a day (Small but enough to feed a family of 7). However, if a day
passes without the breadwinner providing a meal, it means families are going to
starve to death and its already the reality on ground. There is a story
captured on TV already when a father (widower) left his family of 4 kids to
take care of themselves that he could not honor his responsibilities anymore to
provide for his kids. Then who will take care of them?? Imagine…..The oldest is
now the bread winner. There is another family where a mother decided to hand
out her daughter for sexual pleasure to two different men, just to get food for
her family (Shameful act). There are other families which have not got the
spotlight but are lining up on social media platforms to seek for
assistance. Government has not announced any plans to deliver food to
villages across the country apart from the capital city, Kampala and the
surrounding areas of Wakiso. Remember, this is a country which is a third
world, and has a population of more than 45 Million people. I have provided
a portion of my salary (religious charity) to some of these starving
families (which I know of i.e. relatives), but it’s not even enough for more
than 2 families. My aim is to help and mobilize funds and buy the basic
survival food for a small village of 300 people. If I can take care of 30
people on my own, then we can look after a small village which has no hope
from the government. My plan is to buy dried corn from a large scale
farmer/s and I make at least 50 tons of maize flour plus, most
importantly I can also buy the same amount (50 tons) of beans from
warehouses which sell them cheaply so long as you buy in bulk. This will help
in taking care of a small village of 300 people for at least 3 Months. I will
be grateful if your kindness and support is rendered. A wise man once said that
"The only way responsible for the triumph of evil, is for good men to do
nothing" At least am crying out loud. May God bless you will
join me in championing this cause. Amen.
