Born in rural remote community in northern Laos, I lived in a temple from 12 to 18 years old (monastery) in order to get education in city. I have been working as professional community development officers with NGOs since I completed my degree. I am now a single, 30 years old.Until I experienced health complications in 2009, I found out to be Hepatitis B positive. I did not know anything about Hepatitis B before that but I was shocked when a doctor told me that there is no medicine to permanently cure the disease. Most affordable drug locally available is “Lamivudine”. I was suggested to take it by a doctor and I did it. It was very effective during the first year (2010), it reduced a third of my viral load (DNA). I knew in advance that there was a very high possibility that I would experience “drug resistant” and 4 years later which is now in 2014, DNA result shows very little reduction in my viral load and my doctor have suggested me to change to a new drug either Tenofovir or Entecavir while Interferon alfa-2a (Pygasys) is the best option. Those three mentions drug are available only in neighboring country (Thailand). Less working hours per day could really help during transition from changing drug which will enable me to cope with foreseen side effects. Be a volunteer for a NGO is a great choice for me, by being volunteer I will be able to negotiate working hours that fit my health condition and it will allows me to be more flexible at work and importantly being connected with colleges and people I work for will reduce feeling of depression and isolation during all hard time that I have to overcome, finally, being a volunteer to me is about helping and caring people and community that I am living which in turn it always give me a feeling of “value” to myself and it is that feeling motivates me to never give up fighting with the disease. The kind fund would enable me to do a six month volunteer job and cover my medical bill for a full year. “You will never walk alone”, I say to myself before I go to bed and when I get up each morning
